This week, I moved the infrastructure of one of my customers in Paris. Basically, we stopped all the equipment to move them in a new building. When I tried to restart the environment composed of Dell R530 servers and Dell Compellent SCv 2020 SAN storage, the VMware ESXi hypervisors didn’t mount the datastores. No error message appeared and the rescan of storage adapters and datastores since the “Configuration” tab of node didn’t work. For information, the servers are connected to the Compellent storage with 12 Gbps SAS HBA cables. I checked the physical links and everything was alright. The links were up. So, I tried to remove the cluster configuration (servers) of the SAN configuration via “Storage Manager” console and I recreate the servers inside. When I did this operation with the correct HBAs and LUNs ID, the datastores have been mounted directly in ESXi hypervisors… Strange! 🙂

Video webcast live session – New features in Veeam B&R 9.5
Yesterday, Veeam released Veeam Agent for Linux! Veeam Agent for Linux is a tool that backs up physical Linux systems such as a workstation, a server or machines in the public cloud. This tool creates image-based backups that are stored in .VBK format, the same as in Veeam Backup & Replication and Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows (should be available early January). Veeam Agent for Linux comes with it’s own snapshot and “Change Block Tracking” (CBT) driver that allows for creating incremental backups without rescanning. Basically, I participated in a live webcast in french with Veeam France for presenting new Veeam Availability Platform and main features of Veeam B&R 9.5. The goal was also to introduce you new Veeam Agents for Linux and Windows.

Step by Step Guide Veeam B&R 9.5 Upgrade (v9 to v9.5)
In a few days, Veeam should release Veeam Backup and Replication version 9.5, which contains some significant improvements such as Nimble integration, Direct Restore to Microsoft Azure, VMware vCloud Director support, Microsoft 2016 Data center Technologies and more.
