In a few days, Veeam should release Veeam Backup and Replication 9.5 release, new release will allow you to use storage snapshot from Nimble Storage and restore or migrate anything from on-premises to Azure. On 23 August, for the “Veeam’s Next Big Thing” keynote, Veeam has made a number of huge announcements around their plans for the future of availability specially integrating Windows Server 2016 and Hyper-V used in datacenters. Veeam in collaboration with Microsoft, will offer enhanced security and easier integration between versions of Windows Server 2016, Hyper-V 2016 and Microsoft enterprise applications. But the five major products and features announced that will be released around the time of Veeam B&R 9.5 and federated by the Veeam Availability Platform for the Hybrid Cloud which focuses on Enterprise Continuity, Workload Mobility and Compliance and Visibility.
Veeam Availability Platform for the Hybrid Cloud:
The platform stack below is the Veeam’s development strategy for the next years. Veeam will offer a mature solution to become a true leader in the Virtualisation, Backup and Platform Management spaces. Basicaly, Cloud technology is the foundation and Veeam wishes to be a focus on Backup and Replication to public and private cloud with Veeam Cloud Connect.

- VMware vCloud Director support
- Microsoft 2016 data center technologies integration
Windows Server 2016 and Hyper-V integration with Veeam Availability Suite 9.5 included:
Windows Server 2016 support to deploy the components of Veeam Backup & Replicatio and as a guest OS VM protected, including communication with a virtualized system without a network connection via PowerShell Direct.
Windows Server 2016 Hyper-V support including integration with Resilient Change Tracking (RCT) for backup and restoration, then Storage Spaces Direct (S2D) support and Hyper-V hosts installed on Nano Server.
Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SharePoint, Active Directory and SQL Server support, including the latest versions, with application aware processing to restore Microsoft’s objects through Veeam Explorers (fast RTO, less than 15 minutes).
Veeam Agent for Windows et Linux:
New Veeam Agents for Windows and Linux will be supported and licensed per agent. Windows Agent will be available in December 2016 and Linux Agent in November. There are three editions: “Free”, “Workstation” and “Server” being released that include enterprise features such as Application Aware Processing, flexible scheduling and retention options all while being able to backup directly to Cloud Connect repositories. The most important here is that this covers physical workloads (physical server) as well by way of the Server version!
Veeam Availability Orchestrator:
Disaster Recovery Orchestration for the Enterprise through a defined recovery plan useful to manage backups and replicas for disaster recovery, Automated DR Testing for non-disruptive disaster recovery testing to maintain reliability and avoid expensive manual processes. All while being compliant through built in documenting, updating and reporting of DR plans. Veeam Cloud Connect is the key of the plateform to connect with the environments of private and public Cloud through a library of APIs or via the connectors of Veeam’s partners: EMC, HPE, Cisco, NetApp, Nimble Storage, VMware, Microsoft, Exagrid. The license will affected per VM for a anual subscription. The release should be avaialble for Q1 2017.
Just remember the strong integration with Microsoft environments for this release. The integration will be strengthened through the backup and restoration emails in Office 365. This feature is free and should be available for the last quarter of this year.
Veeam Availability Console is an enabled platform for Cloud Service Providers and distributed enterprise environments that leverages Veeam Cloud Connect. The management console provides to enterprises a way to easily manage the remote offices, branch offices (ROBO) and other distributed sites, enabling Service Providers to deploy BaaS (Backup as a Service ) and DRaaS (Disaster Recovery as a Service) managed services optimized by Veeam for their customers, and allows to the partners and resellers to start a new business as Service Providers. The feature is included in Availability Platform.
Veeam One 9.5 Chargeback:
Includes new Chargeback function for Veeam Cloud Service Providers with the ability to charge for consumed resources that covers vSphere, vCloud Director and Hyper-V.
Advanced ReFS Integration:
ReFS support to reduce the performance impact through fast cloning technology (shorter backup windows, lower storage load, reduced consumption and more reliable forever forward incremental archiving).
Finally Veeam announces the IBM Storage support in Veeam Availability Suite 10. Version 10 will be the release of integration with IBM Spectrum and Storwize environments according to the technology partner phylosophie. Veeam favors first the market presence and the partners ready to work with Veeam. A “Tech Preview” should be available in the next Veeam ON event to be held next May in New Orleans.
Looking forward, this is set to continue with the release of Veeam 9.5 and beyond.
