This article describes the procedure of migrating Veeam One Server version 8 to version 9 and installing Veeam One 9 Update 1 (KB)
What’s new in Veeam One 9? General functionality here. This article provides a step by step guide for an upgrade from Veeam One 8 to Veeam One 9 (upgrade to version 9.0 is supported from Veeam ONE version 7.0 and 8.0).
For more security:
If the Veeam One Server is deployed on a Virtual Machine, execute a backup of this VM with Veeam B&R or a snapshot.
When the backup is done, you can close Veeam One software and restart the Windows server (reboot). Basically I recommend you to stop properly the Veeam services before upgrading (services.msc). Burn the downloaded *.iso image file to a blank CD/DVD or mount the installation image using disk image emulation software. If Veeam ONE runs on a virtual machine, use built-in tools of the virtualization management software to mount the installation image to the virtual machine.
Running the Installer:
You have to run the installation file “Veeam.exe”. The installer will verify what version of .NET Framework is currently present on the machine. If the required version 4 or later is not found, the installer will prompt to automatically install .NET Framework software which is bundled into Veeam ONE installer package. After the completion of .NET Framework installation, Veeam ONE upgrade will proceed.
Click on “OK” to install .NET Framework 4.5.2.
Reboot to restart the Veeam One server and clearing any locks on the Veeam services.
Installation Wizard:
Click and install “Veeam One Server” upgrade.
Once welcome wizard is launched, click on “Next” button.
Accept the terms in the licence agreement and click on “Next” button.
Next, a screen will appear and show the components that were previously installed. These products (Veeam ONE Server, Veeam ONE RWeb UI and Veeam Monitor Client) that will be upgraded in version 9. Click on “Next” button to proceed with the upgrade process.
The next screen will require the new license file. If the old license file is used, the license will be flagged as invalid. You have to log you on Veeam.com to generate the new license file (*.lic).
A prompt will appear for the Service Account Credentials. It is strongly suggested adding a service account with permissions be used instead of the default domain administrator account. If the default domain admin was used, this is a great opportunity to create a new account. Click on “Next” button.
By default the option “Use existing instance of SQL Server” will be checked, and Veeam will detect the existing database in use. Click on “Next” button. Note: You can follow this post if you need to install Microsft SQL Server Standard version.
A prompt will appear, regarding connecting to the selected database. This will upgrade the existing database if an upgrade is needed, click “Yes”.
Select “Typical” installation type and click “Next”.
Veeam will prompt to install the upgrade, click “Install”.
The upgrade took about few minutes to complete.
Once the upgrade completed, a prompt appeared to finalize the installation. Click on “Finish” button.
Basically, you can restart the Veeam One server.
Update 1 Installtion:
Once the reboot completes and Veeam One 9 has been opened, a new authentification screen will appear. You can fill in the fields sice the Veeam One Monitor and click on “Connect”. Then, you can deploy Veeam One Update 1 patch (information about this KB here).
You have to run the installation file “VeeamONE_9.0.0.2088_Update1.exe”.
Once welcome wizard is launched, click on “Next” button.
A prompt will appear for the Service Account Credentials, Click on “Next” button.
