Step by Step Guide Veeam Availability Console Install

This article provides a step by step guide to install Veeam Availability Console. Veeam Availability Console is an enabled platform for Cloud Service Providers and distributed enterprise environments that leverage Veeam Cloud Connect. The management console provides to enterprises a way to easily manage the remote offices, branch offices (ROBO) and other distributed sites, enabling Service Providers to deploy BaaS (Backup as a Service ) and DRaaS (Disaster Recovery as a Service) managed services optimized by Veeam for their customers, and allows to the partners and resellers to start a new business as Service Providers. The feature is included in Availability Platform. With this centralized console, you should be able to manage physical and virtual workloads and especially deploy then configure Veeam Agents for Windows on both physical and cloud-hosted servers and workstations! Veeam Agent for Linux will be available in the next major version.

Veeam Availability Console is federated by the Veeam Availability Platform for the Hybrid Cloud which focuses on Enterprise Continuity, Workload Mobility, and Compliance and Visibility. Veeam Backup and Replication and Veeam Agents are referred inside Veeam Availability Console. You can monitor them via an only one web interface. Then, if you are Service Prodider you will be able to manage and monitor your tenants (chargeback and billing, alerting etc.):

Running the Installer:

Veeam Availability Console: You have to run the installation file “Setup.exe”.

A prompt will appear for the Service Account Credentials. It is strongly suggested adding a service account with permissions be used instead of the default domain administrator account. If the default domain admin was used, this is a great opportunity to create a new account. The supplied user account must have owner rights to the Veeam Availability Console database. In my lab, I used a local administrator account. Click on “Next” button.

Click on “Next” button.

By default, the option “Install new instance of SQL Server” will be checked (Veeam will detect the existing database in use if the software has been already installed before). Here I use Veeam B&R instance of SQL Server installed on the same Virtual Machine. You can specify “SA” SQL account. Click on “Next” button. Note: You can follow this post if you need to install Microsft SQL Server Standard version.

You can change the port configuration to be used by Veeam Availability Console (Management Agent port: 9999 – Website port: 1280). I recommend you to let the port configuration by default. You can create a new TLS certificate (“Generate new self-signed certificate”) or use an existing certificate. Here I use the Veeam B&R certificate. Click on “Next” button.

The wizard is now ready to begin the installation. Veeam Availability Console Setup will prompt to install the software, check the configuration and click “Install”.

After you install Veeam Availability Console, you must connect the Veeam Cloud Connect server to it. When you connect the Veeam Cloud Connect server, Veeam Availability Console deploys its management agent on the server. The Veeam Cloud Connect server must be configured as described in section Setting Up Veeam Cloud Connect Infrastructure. I will write a post about Veeam Availability Console configuration soon as possible!

Veeam Availability Console includes two portals available over a single URL:

  • Administrator Portal is the working area for the service provider. In the Administrator portal, the service provider can configure Veeam Availability Console settings, manage companies (clients), perform billing, monitoring and remote management tasks. The Administrator Portal is accessible by users who have the Portal Administrator role.

  • Client Portal is a self-service area for clients who consume services offered by the service provider. In the Client portal, clients can monitor how much resources they have consumed, manage jobs, view invoices and perform basic configuration tasks. The Client Portal is accessible by users who have the Company Administrators or Company User role. The scope of data available to company users in the Client Portal is restricted to this company only: users cannot access data pertaining to other companies.

Veeam Availability Console can manage the following Veeam products:

Platforms:

  • Veeam Agent for Windows 2.0,
  • Veeam Backup & Replication 9.5,
  • Veeam Backup & Replication 9.0 update 1 or later (compatible).

Software:

  • Veeam Management Agent

Network:

For remote network discovery rules based on the IP range option, discovered computers must have these firewall rules enabled:

  • Port TCP 445,
  • File and Printer Sharing (SMB-In),
  • Remote Scheduled Tasks Management (RPC). Incoming. TCP, RPC Dynamic Ports firewall rule (for Client operating systems).
