Way to cleanly remove Veeam Agent for Windows

This article provides a step by step guide to cleanly remove Veeam Agent for Windows (VAW). Veeam Agent for Windows is now available in version 2. There are three editions: “Free“, “Workstation” and “Server” being released that include enterprise features such as Application Aware Processing (VSS), flexible scheduling and retention options all while being able to backup directly to Cloud Connect repositories. The most important here is that this covers physical workloads (physical server) as well by way of the Server version.. Uninstall of the software is successful but you can not get rid of any historical data from the old build of VAW. Here’s way to cleanly remove Veeam Agent for Windows…

Action Plan:

  • Uninstalled Veeam Agent for Windows (VAW)
  • Deleted c:\programdata\veeam
  • Deleted c:\program files\Veeam
  • Deleted Veeam reg keys
  • Uninstalled SQL LocalDB and removed VeeamEndPoint SQL instance before uninstalling
  • Deleted Veeam DB files in c:\windows\system32\config\systemprofile
  • C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Local DB\Instances\VeeamEndPoint
  • Data in that last directory had to be removed as well.

Hope this guide will help you! Veeam Agents (Windows and Linux) are powerful. They can allow you to backup your physical workloads and workstations. Next Veeam Backup and Replication v9.5 Update 3 release should allow to manage and monitor your Veeam Backup and Replication environment and the whole of your workstations and standalone servers from only one interface!

One very interesting thing with Veeam Agent is the ability to only monitor the agents via your centralized Veeam Backup & Replication v9.5 U2 console. You need to to upgrade your Veeam Backup Server to Veeam B&R 9.5 Update 2, (version 9.5.0.1038) then you will be able to manage/track your jobs from Veeam B&R console.

Note: You can follow this step by step guide to install Veeam Agent for Windows and this one to monitor agents from the Veeam B&R console or add the existing agents to the console for monitoring.

You can follow this guide to automate Veeam Agent for Windows with PowerShell.
