Veeam will release a new free product named “Endpoint Backup” in Q1 of 2015. It is a data protection and disaster recovery solution for physical machines (workstations or servers). You can use it to create an entire system image backup, back up specific volumes and individual folders, restore data from backups to its original location or new location, or perform bare-metal.
This article provides a step by step guide to deploy Veeam Endpoint Backup.
Running the Installer:
You have to run the installation file. Here: “EndPoint.8.0.0.1822.exe”.
Installation Wizard:
Once wizard is launched, accept the terms in the licence agreement and click on “Next” button.
Veeam Endpoint Backup requires the following components:
Veeam will run a quick systems check to verify all the required components are installed. Click “Install”.
Veeam Endpoint Backup is now installing.
If you want configure a scheduled backup job, you can insert the USB stick to a USB slot on your computer and click Next. If you do not want to configure a scheduled backup job at the moment, select the “Skip auto configuration, I will configure backup manually” check box and click “Next” button. You will be able to configure the scheduled backup job with the necessary settings later on.
Basically, you can create a recovery image of your computer. Select the “Veeam Advanced Recovery creation wizard” check box. Click “Finish”. Veeam Endpoint Backup will start the wizard and you will be able to create a recovery image on the necessary type of media immediately after the product is installed.
The Recovery Media step of the wizard, specify what type of recovery image you want to create and what drivers you want to include in the recovery image. You can create a recovery image in the ISO file format and save the resulting file locally on your computer or in a network shared folder. You can include into the recovery image storage and network drivers currently installed on your computer/server. Select: “Include hardware drivers from this computer”. It is very useful, for example, you can include drivers for a third party USB 3.0 controllers and non-standard hard disk controllers.
Then, specify path to ISO. You can change name of ISO file. If you selected to save the ISO file in a network shared folder (server, NAS etc.) and this folder requires authentication, select the “This share requires access credentials” check box and enter the user name and password in fields below. The user name must be specified in the DOMAIN\Username format.
Finally, check settings and click “Next”.
Review progress and click “Finish”.
